Chapter: To Compost or Not: The Theory Behind the Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine

Fermentation. If you’ve ever used a bokashi bucket, you would know that fermented food scraps decompose very quickly. You ferment them in the bucket, you put the fermented scraps in the soil, and a few weeks later you have more soil where the food scraps were. This is because bacteria, yeast and mould will quite happily digest any matter that was alive and the bokashi system creates an environment where bacteria, yeast and mould thrive.

Without us realising it however, our own bodies behave just like bokashi buckets if the conditions are right, and we can undergo fermentation. Bacteria, yeast and mould, in a non-resisting body will not know that you are still alive, their job is to return you to the soil.

It sounds like something out of a horror movie, or at least a science fiction, but the ‘Pleomorphic Theory’ is here to stay. The Pleomorphic Theory is a fancy name for the statement that disease starts in the conditions of the body, not from any external force such as a germ. Gabriel Cousens describes this theory using an old phrase, “The swamp breeds mosquitoes. Mosquitoes do not breed a swamp.”

Gabriel Cousens explains in this chapter of his book that there are microscopic particles, much smaller than the human cell, that live in our bodies known as microzymas or protits. These microzymas have two roles – 1) building, growing, repairing and regenerating, and 2) consuming, digesting, recycling, deconstructing. The latter role is the process of dying; fermenting the body so that it can more easily break down into soil when the time comes. The microzymas are always in one role or the other, and if the conditions of our body reach a certain tipping point the “composting button” as Gabriel calls it, will be switched and the process of degeneration will begin.

The condition that can flick the switch from repairing to recycling is that of acidic blood. Gabriel Cousens explains that red blood cells normally have a negative charge. Because two negatively charged cells repel each other, healthy red blood cells will be separated from each other, providing the maximum surface area for oxygen absorption and for any waste matter to be repelled. When blood becomes acidic, the red blood cells lose their negative charge and unhealthy cells can become positively charged. This causes the red blood cells to clump together as there will be some cells with a positive charge and some cells may still beĀ  negative or have just a weak charge. When red blood cells clump together the surface area for receiving oxygen and expelling waste becomes very small and so these cells become easily consumed by bacteria, yeast and mould who love to rip apart the cell and feast on its hemoglobin. Aided by the microzymas which become parasitic themselves, these sick cells become fermented and digested.

To make matters worse, parasitic microorganisms produce toxins as they digest the body’s cells. The toxins further weaken and acidify the body, putting significant stress on the organs. For example, candida albicans produces a toxic alcohol waste product which especially damages the liver.

I have seen this myself in my own blood before I made significant improvements in my diet. I went to visit a naturopath a few years ago complaining of feeling tired all the time, and having significantly impaired digestion and other physical symptoms. What I saw when the naturopath showed me my blood through the screen connected to his dark-field microscope was terrifying. The red blood cells were clumped up together like a string of sausages. They had lost their natural circular form and looked like rubber bands, squished and contorted into long ovals instead of circles. Surrounding the strings of red blood cells I could see rod-shaped bacteria floating around, and small black blobs that the naturopath said were yeast forms. The occasional white blood cell could be seen, but instead of attacking these intruders these white ‘police’ cells were just standing still as though paralyzed. The naturopath pointed out that my liver was already in very bad shape; I suspected that anyway, as I would receive a rash all over my face if I had even a small amount of alcohol. So, faced with the grim reality I decided to fix the situation, and yes it was eventually reversed although it did not happen overnight.

Many things in our modern lifestyles can create an acidic blood profile. These are a few of the causes according to Gabriel Cousens:

  • Sugar: hybridized fruits, refined sugar products, refined flour products
  • Toxic edibles: irradiated, processed, canned, genetically modified products that are consumed as ‘food’
  • Environment: pollution, heavy metal toxicity, radiation, lack of oxygen
  • Drugs: steroids, antibiotics, birth control pills, alcohol, cigarettes

While Gabriel Cousens does not specify an order in terms of how much damage they do, I can attest that in my own body antibiotics and birth control pills have an almost instant and highly damaging affect. While I have been very healthy since changing my diet and I have not needed any antibiotic medicine, when I attempted to use the birth control pill recently by body had a reaction despite the fact that i had asked for and received the lowest effective dose. Last time I used antibiotics, a few years ago, I had the same issue but even worse. To women readers: if you suffer from thrush repeatedly, try using a non-hormonal contraceptive such as a cervical cap for a month and see if the thrush goes away. If it does, then the birth control pill is probably flicking your compost button.

The good news is that once your body has switched over to compost mode it can be switched back to building mode, but it just takes a bit of determination to make your internal environment clean again. Fortunately new red blood cells are being born into your blood all the time, and if the conditions are cleaned up these new red blood cells will be able to resist the invasion of bacteria, yeast and mould and these parasites will die back to normal levels. Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine teaches you how to restore your internal environment.
